Entering the Chaos Pt. 1
LONG story
A cool breeze blew in the evening air. A small click could be heard in one of the back alleys as Savera locked the back door to her store. The fox took a look around before pocketing the key.

She would be going to a friend’s house for a midnight movie and didn’t want anyone in the shop while she was gone. She glanced at the watch on her wrist, half an hour to midnight, plenty of time to get to her friend’s place.

Savera started walking down the alleys when she spotted a bunch of people hanging out in the alley she intended to head down to get to the street. Deciding to play it safe Savera decided to walk down to the next alley.

In the next alley Savera spotted another group just as before. Then she noticed that they were all wearing the same outfit.

“Oh s***” Savera muttered, realizing what she had gotten herself into. These were part of the local gang. Known for being nasty and ruthless they used any method to get what they wanted.

Savera started backing away when one of them spoke, “Hey pretty, why you running off to?”

Savera stopped, and looked back to face the owner of the voice. A large bear had stepped forward. He was massive, easily twice her height. Savera’s face was full of fear and she looked back the way she had come, but the group she spotted in the other alley had moved up and cut of her retreat. She looked back at the bear as he and his group approached her.

The bear spoke up again in an extremely calm voice, “We don’t want to hurt you. Just give us the key to the nice shop you got over there and we’ll let you leave unharmed.”

Savera cringed and a squirrel spoke, “Don’t make the boss repeat himself, you don’t want to see him when he’s angry.”

Savera took a step back and glanced around. Spotting that the alley to her left was clear Savera panicked and bolted down into the maze of alleys between the streets.

Behind her Savera could hear the footsteps of the gang pursuing her. As much as she hated to admit it, she was not used to running wildly like this. A rustle of wings overhead told her she was outmaneuvered.

Savera looked up just in time to see the bat drop down on top of her. The sudden weight on her back caused Savera to pitch forward and hit her head on the ground.

Now groggy and disoriented Savera felt the bat and his partner pick her up and drag her back towards the games.

Once in front of the bear Savera was shoved roughly onto the ground. Looking up she saw the bear towering over her. A hand went into her pocket and pulled something out. “I told you to just hand over this key. Looks like you need to be taught a lesson in respect.”

The bear walked back, “Take care of her.”

Someone behind Savera grabbed her by the hair and pulled her upright. Cringing in pain Savera got her feet under her. A skunk stepped in front of her, cracking its knuckles. Without warning it lashed out, striking Savera in the stomach. Savera cried out in pain as she felt a second and then a third blow hit her.

Savera was released and collapsed to the ground, doubled over. She heard the bear laughing, “Next time when we come for payment maybe you’ll learn to just pay up.”

Savera started to rise, her injuries not being to great, just painful. Unfortunately for her the skunk looked back and spotted Savera getting to her feet. “Hey boss, dumb broad don’t know when to stay down. Should I give her another pummeling?”

The bear looked back at Savera and grinned devilishly, “Go ahead. We can’t have her alerting the cops just yet.”

The skunk had the same grin as his boss. Savera took a weak step back, realizing that she’d either end up in the hospital, or worse. But with no strength left from her beating she knew she couldn’t run. She closed her eyes, expecting the worst.

“That’s enough of that!” a voice shouted from above.

Savera and the skunk looked up and saw something leaping down from the roof tops. The skunk jumped back as the newcomer landed on the ground in front of Savera. There was a loud thud when he landed, as if he weighed to much. Now at eye level Savera could see in the moonlight that this was a white hedgehog with black stripes in his quills.

“I think you’ve hurt to poor fox enough,” it said, its voice thick with an Irish accent. The hedgehog took a defensive stance in front of Savera, coming between her and the gang. Its head was pointing down towards the ground.

The bear looked annoyed at this new development, “What do you want?”

The hedgehog chuckled, “What I want is for you and your pals here to surrender yourself to the police.”

The bear look at him silently for a moment before throwing its head back in laughter. “The police are cowards that won’t get anywhere near us. That’s a good one.”

The hedgehog’s voice remained level. “I was being serious,” he said. The bear stopped laughing and looked at the hedgehog. The hedgehog continued, “But I had a feeling you wouldn’t go along with that. I don’t want to hurt you but I will if I must.”

The hedgehog looked up at the bear, who promptly asked the question, “What are you, some punk you thinks he’s cool coloring his eyes like that?”

When the stranger didn’t respond the bear said, “Doesn’t matter. Oran, kill him.”

The stranger looked back at Savera, “Make a break for it, I’ll keep them off your back.” Savera could now see what the bear meant, the hedgehog’s eyes were a deep, blood red.

Savera started to speak when the hedgehog turned around and grabbed the punch from the skunk. While Savera reeled from those blows earlier by the burly skunk this guy was completely unfazed. He held the fist in one hand, “Violence won’t solve anything. But if you insist.”

Letting go of the hand he spun around and kicked the skunk square in the chest. The blow was far more powerful then it looked as the skunk went flying into a brick wall. The wall dented from the force of the blow. The skunk fell to the ground and collapsed, breathing but otherwise unmoving.

Savera was stunned, wondering who was this guy. He looked back at Savera, “I said run!”

But instead of running Savera just sank back down to the ground, her strength gone. “Damn it” the hedgehog said. He turned and picked up Savera and then jumped down the alley. The way he moved it was as if he didn’t even notice Savera’s weight. He placed her behind a dumpster, “Stay here” he said. He turned back to face the gang and started walking towards them. Savera poked her head around the dumpster to watch what was happening.

“Not bad,” the bear said, “but do you really intend to fight all of us on your own?”

The hedgehog shook his head, “No, I only intend to fight those who don’t surrender.”

“Then you’re a fool. Get him.” The bear said, waiving his hand forward. Two bats leapt up into the air behind him and flew straight towards the hedgehog. Each of them pulled out a gun in the air and took aim.

After shaking his head the hedgehog jumped up into the air. Quickly he started spinning around the center of his body, the quills on the back of his body turning into dangerous saw blades.

The two bats fired their guns, but the bullets deflected off the whirling spines. The spinning hedgehog slammed into the two bats, knocking them both to the ground unconscious.

The hedgehog then landed in the midst of the gang. He grabbed an echidna and used him as a club to send other gang members careening into the walls. At that point a gunshot was heard.

Verdo dropped his club and jumped back and landed near the dumpster Savera was hiding behind. Blood oozed slowly from a small hole on his chest. The hedgehog looked down at his wound, “Well, now that was dirty,” he said, “You’ll need to do better then that though.”

A lizard in the back of the group replies, smoke slowly rising from the barrel of his gun, “You talk tough kid, but I won’t miss your heart twice.”

“Oh really now?” The hedgehog crossed his arms in front of his chest, “If you’re so confident you can have your bullet back.” With that the hedgehog threw his arms back, flexing the muscles in his chest. With the sound of a popgun the bullet popped out of chest. He caught it and then threw it back at the gang where it hit the lizard in the eye.

While his foe was recoiling from the attack/the hedgehog dashed forward. He curled up on the ground and rolled through the many gang members, knocking them over, before he stopped in front of the lizard. The lizard quickly tried to aim another shot but the hedgehog brought his foot up quickly. He kicked the gun up and there was a loud crack as the bones in the lizard’s finger broken and bent over backwards.

Before the lizard had time to cry out the hedgehog head butted him, sending the lizard headfirst into the ground, unconscious.

The hedgehog turned to look at the gang when one of the bats from earlier spoke, “Hold it right there white boy. Or we take a good look at the inside of the vixen’s head.”

The bat had pulled Savera out from behind the dumpster and was holding her with one arm behind her back and a knife to the back of her head. The hedgehog stood perfectly still for a moment before putting both of his hands over his head.

The bear laughed, “Quick thinking Ron-al. He makes a movement towards that fox slice her in the back of the head.”

The bear then walked over towards his now stopped adversary, “You’ve proven yourself quite the foe, but you have proven far to troublesome.” A knife was unsheathed and its point pressed under the hedgehog’s chin, “Any last words kid?”

The hedgehog looked down at the knife, “Just two words. Chaos Control!”

A blinding flash of light enveloped the hedgehog and he vanished. Simultaneously another flashed appeared next to Savera. Next thing she knew the knife and the bat’s hand were no longer press against her back. Moments later to loud thumping sounds were heard and when she spun around the bat had slumped to the floor. Bruises covered its face while the white hedgehog stood nearby dusting its hands off.

The bear and the rest of the gang whipped around, “What was that!?” one of them cried out.

“Boss, I think I know who this guy is,” said a weasel.

“What do you mean?” the bear replied, his temper rising.

“I think is one of THE freaks.” The weasel said, not taking its eyes off the hedgehog.

“I KNOW HE’S A FREAK! WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO PROVE!” the bear yelled, picking up the weasel and yelling in its face.

The weasel looked terrified, “I mean he’s one of those seven people created artificially years ago.”

The bear starred at the weasel for a moment before dropping him and looking at the hedgehog.

“Oh so you finally got me figured out,” the hedgehog said and then whispered to Savera, “Get behind me, this is going to get ugly.”

As soon as Savera was behind him the hedgehog looked back at the gang. “My name is Verdo. I am one of the seven chaos hedgehogs. I extend my offer to surrender once again. I don’t want to hurt you but I can’t let things get out of hand any more.”

The bear hesitated for only a moment, “This our response. Everyone, open fire.”

Guns of all types whipped out from where ever they were stashed. The sound of gunfire filled the air as bullet after bullet was fired. Savera closed her eyes, expecting to be killed any moment.

When nothing happened she looked up, Verdo was holding up a single hand and in front of him was a glowing white barrier. The bullets were hitting this barrier and falling to the ground as molten bits of metal. Verdo sighed, “Why must it always be the hard way.”

Verdo made a cup with his other hand, a white glowing orb materialized in it. “What are you doing?”

“Just something to make them all go to sleep. Chaos…” Verdo said and threw his second hand forward. “SPEAR!”

The barrier dropped away and a huge beam of white light filled the alley ways. Bullets and the gang members were thrown into the walls. Everyone hit was instantly knocked unconscious.

Savera peeked out from behind Verdo and was shocked by what she saw. In one action Verdo had defeated the entire gang that teams of S.W.A.T. officers hadn’t been able to.

“How… How… how…” Savera stuttered.

Verdo looked back at her, “It was easy.” One of his ears twitched as the sound of sirens could be heard approaching, “I’ll explain it later. Lets get out of here for now. Police ask far to many questions for my tastes.”

Savera nodded, “Okay, but what about the key they stole from me?”

“Oh you mean this thing?” Verdo said, reaching under the edge of his glove to pull out a small key, “I swiped it from them when I was in the middle of brawling with all of them.”

Savera took the key and pocketed it. Then she and Verdo ran off into the alleys beyond. Savera never got to her friend’s house that night, but had one very interesting story to tell later. Hopefully it would be a good excuse.
